MrBeast Squid Game Video Slammed For Plagiarism

While YouTube personality ‘MrBeast’ published his own version of Netflix’s hit show, ‘Squid Game,’ on November 24th, it has had over 110 million views in less than a week, not everyone is happy with the creator’s latest project.

One of YouTube’s most well-known content creators is Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson. The YouTuber is notorious for putting together massive videos with ridiculous challenges… and a hefty cash prize for people who take part.

MrBeast’s generosity is also what has propelled him to internet fame; in addition to his ambitious “challenge-style” videos, the influencer has given away millions of dollars to those in need over the course of his career, and has even founded his own charity food bank with funds raised through his YouTube channels.

His previous accomplishments, however, have been overshadowed by his most recent project: a $3.5 million recreation of Netflix’s hit Korean thriller ‘Squid Game.’ The highly anticipated video went viral almost immediately, garnering millions of views just hours after its release. Despite the video’s massive success, MrBeast’s Squid Game is facing backlash on social media for what some critics think is cheap “plagiarism” from  Hwang Dong-hyuk’s international hit.

Several commenters have criticized the recreation, with some claiming that the ‘creator economy’ profits immensely from cheap imitations of someone’s hard work.

Before the video was even uploaded, screenshots of the sets used in MrBeast’s version sparked outrage from Squid Game fans, who thought that MrBeast had “missed the point” of the play and was profiting off a message about people’s struggle under capitalism. MrBeast has yet to reply to the recent video criticism.
