Minecraft Speedrun Tournament Ruined

Recently, during a Minecraft speedrunning tournament, a Twitch ad for an adult oriented product interrupted the quarter final match on Twitch. Minecraft is one of the most popular games on Twitch, with 26.8 million followers. Minecraft is a sandbox construction video game originally created by Markus “Notch” Persson. It is maintained by Mojang Studios, a part of Xbox Game Studios, which in turn is part of Microsoft. However, earlier this year, Twitch received backlash for a mid-roll advertisement test that led to the endeavor being cancelled, yet ads still come up again and again during the Minecraft speedrunning tournament.

MinecraftJavaSpeedrunning is currently holding a Minecraft speedrunning tournament where runners compete against one another to see who can beat the Ender Dragon. KiRyuKoe and Korbanoes are the runners or players that took part in a best-of-three Quarterfinals match for the RSG 1.14 Tournament, when in around 42 minutes in the third round game KiRyuKoe’s side of the stream was interrupted by an advertisement for Trojan condoms. The streamers ended up laughing together because of what had popped out.

They continued to laugh after it ended, carrying a more jovial tone into the continued explanations for how the runners were attempting to get into the End and face the Ender Dragon. The ad interrupting the stream was pretty funny, but its timing is what made it hilarious. Both competitors were close to finishing their runs when the unexpected condom ad interrupted their performances. Furthermore, the viewers were forced to watch the ad as if it were part of the event, but the commentators’ reactions made it clear that it was not.
