Meowriianne Called Out Twitch

Meowriianne Called Out Twitch

Twitch streamer that goes by the name Meowriianne, recently had an innocent emote picturing a mushroom in a hot tub banned because it was considered too “sexual,” much to the dismay of the creator.

Streamers can use custom emotes to personalize their channels and provide their subscribers a method to support them in other chat rooms on the platform. For added personality, broadcasters frequently incorporate memes and inside jokes into their emotes. Twitch’s infamous hot tub meta is one of those inside references about which many people have strong feelings, so it’s easy to see why emotes about it may seem like a good idea. Especially since mushrooms are a recurring element in her life.

Unfortunately for Meowriianne, her emote of a mushroom in a hot tub was mistakenly seen as sexual, resulting in it being banned. Meowriianne said on November 18 that Twitch will not allow her to use her emote on the site. She wrote attached a photo of the emote; “Did you guys know this cute emote of a mushroom in a little tub with floaties is sexual? Twitch says so!”

Twitch said in an email that it had been banned for having “sexual content” and that “sexualized torsos” were not permitted. Surprisingly, a very similar emote without the yellow bikini or flotation equipment is currently permitted on her channel, causing much more annoyance.

This is not the first time that this kind of incident happened as Twitch banned another streamer’s emote portraying Winnie the Pooh in a hot tub for the same reason as Meowriianne’s. The emote originally featured a cartoon bear in a bikini with money all around him, but it was accepted after it was altered to make the swimwear look more like a shirt.

It’s unclear whether Twitch has a problem with bikinis or not, but there appears to be a lot of misunderstanding because the service created a separate category for hot tub and beach broadcasts.
