Masterchef Meta Explained

A new approach of viewing previous MasterChef seasons has just become a craze on the streaming hub. Almost everyone is riding this new meta boat, from top streamers to not-so-popular streamers, without giving DMCA strikes a second consideration.

Gordon Ramsey, a celebrity chef with multiple Michelin, joked in a tweet promoting his new show, the Next Level Chef, about the recent Twitch meta of streaming older episodes of MasterChef USA. The long-serving Master Chef US judge joked on Twitter that viewers may catch up on his Next Level Chef series on Twitch if they missed it on Fox or Hulu. While Gordon wasn’t slamming any one streamer, the new meta has been criticized.

Several streamers, including Felix “xQc” Lengyel, Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker, and Angela “AriaSaki,” are illegally streaming older episodes of Masterchef USA to the public on platforms other than licensed streams.

While it is certain that it is illegal to stream these episodes to the public on platforms other than licensed streams, many people have come forward in support of these streamers, claiming that it is “free publicity” and “opens door to new audience”.

While Twitch has yet to respond to these concerns, some streamers have questioned whether it is acceptable to stream random television episodes and react to them live.

In a tweet, Twitch streamer Ben “Cohh Carnage” Cassell questioned if streamers may watch and react to random TV shows on the platform, to which a staff member responded that they are not permitted to and that the platform will eventually take action against these creators.

Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the current Twitch meta of streaming such media, wishing for them to be “DMCA’D.” It’ll be interesting to see if Twitch takes any action against streamers, as the MasterChef US organizers appear to have chosen to ignore the trend, and Gordon Ramsay just mentioned it in his tweet to promote his new show.
