Jakenbake Is Sad For Twitch Future

Many creators have the chance to learn more about the direction the platform is going during TwitchCon, but that opportunity isn’t always favorable.

A visit with the president of Twitch could be expected to inspire a creator, but Jakenbake, known for his in-person streaming, was uninspired by his conversation with Dan Clancy. Jakenbake said; “I have no problem personally with him. But honestly, I don’t feel confident as a streamer on the platform with someone who is that out of touch with what the streamers need and want. Very weird. I walked away feeling depressed, seriously, sad.”

A former Twitch employee who worked with Clancy made some of the most noteworthy comments after fellow streamer Lowco shared the video on Twitter. Jake agreed that Clancy is a “good human,” however DjWHEAT added in two comments that Clancy is deficient in terms of understanding creators. WHEAT said; “Dan once told the company he relates with creators because he was involved in drama and theatre clubs in high school. He is a good human, but I never felt like he was able to relate to creators and the struggles they face through every step of their career.”

However, there was one area where WHEAT backed Clancy wholeheartedly; WHEAT claimed that Clancy is a “champion for transparency,” which he found “refreshing.” Nowhere was this transparency more evident than when Clancy authored the blog post by Twitch announcing the platform’s decision to eliminate the unique 70-30 subscription income share splits it offers to some creators.

Not only did he sign the letter, he did so more than a year before the modification was scheduled to take place.
