How Pokimane & Disguised Toast Pay Their Mods

Jeremy “Disguised Toast” and Imane “Pokimane,” two well-known Twitch streamers, paired together to play The Quarry on stream earlier this month.

Disguised Toast thought that one of their Twitch channel moderators may have lost their internet connection, forcing the game to load slowly, as they waited for the game to load. When Disguised Toast questioned Pokimane about whether or not she compensates her moderators, the conversation quickly changed.

After a brief discussion, it emerged that while the latter frequently paid some of her channel moderators for specific tasks, the vast majority of them were volunteers.

Imane and Jeremy got together to play The Quarry, the newest game from Supermassive Games, on a prior livestream earlier this month. The former Facebook Gaming streamer made the following claim regarding his channel moderator just before they loaded into the game: “Maybe one of the mods lost their internet. It did trigger once we were about to do a quick time event.”

The reply from the Moroccan-Canadian livestreamer was: “I’m yelling at them in my chat. I guess maybe they are all loading in and we’re just waiting for them to load in.”

When Disguised Toast questioned the co-founder of OffineTV about paying her channel’s moderators, the topic of conversation changed. Imane answered that she has a lot of volunteer moderators, but some of them do get paid if she needs something specific done or if they labor for a long time. She uttered: “Umm… sometimes. So, I have like a bunch of them that are volunteer internet janitors but then whenever I need them for something specific or I need them to stay a long time or it’s been a particularly tough weekend or a month, then you know, they can come to me for some schmoney.”

Imane posed the same query to Disguised Toast, who added that he sends his channel moderators a gift card once every six months in response: “That’s very generous of you. I give them like a $100 gift card to Amazon like, once every half-a-year.”

Pokimane added that as a sign of gratitude, she also offers her Twitch channel moderators annual gifts: “Yeah, I have like a yearly mod appreciation time and I get them all a little gift.”
