Gordon Ramsay Does not Know Twitch

Gordon Ramsay Does not Know Twitch

On the first episode of Gordon Ramsay’s new show, Next Level Chef, the British chef admitted that he has no idea what Twitch is.

When Ramsay asked competitor Tricia Wang what she does for a livelihood, she said she’s a professional streamer who specializes in cooking, and she disclosed this surprising fact. Ramsay was taken aback and asked, “What the f**k is Twitch?” Given how popular culinary streams have become on the platform, it’s surprising Ramsay hadn’t heard of it before, but that appears to have changed.

Ramsay used Twitter after the broadcast aired to add fuel to the flames, repeating his question from the show and tagging the official Twitch Twitter account. Twitch streamers, predictably, were quick to respond.

Pokimane revealed that she owns a cardboard cutout of Ramsay, which she displays throughout her streams, and even publicly invited him to cook with her. Meanwhile, HasanAbi described Twitch as “a platform where we watch you every day,” and xQc offered to give Ramsay his phone number so they could talk about it.

Of course, Ramsay’s outrageous attitude has long been a draw for his shows, and it’s possible that the interaction was made to draw more attention to Next Level Chef; it seems unlikely that he’d have a major Twitch streamer as a participant and not know what it is! Furthermore, Twitch’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, and it appears that most individuals are at least vaguely familiar with the platform. Regardless, it appears that the appearance on the show has garnered a lot of publicity for Next Level Chef, which may have been the intention all along. It may even persuade more of Twitch’s top names to watch live streams.
