Asmongold’s Take On YouTube Versus YouTube

Since its debut in June 2011, Twitch has been the top live streaming service. However, in recent years, YouTube has emerged as the platform controlled by Amazon’s main rival.

Ludwig Ahgren, who claims Twitch is concerned about the threat YouTube poses to their industry monopoly and believes their reign as the top dog is coming to an end, is one of the notable personalities they’ve signed.

Asmongold did not go all the way. However, he thinks that YouTube has a competitive advantage over Twitch because their platform offers a better user experience and displays fewer ads.

The discussion was launched when the MMO veteran said during his stream on September 3 that “I think that it should not be possible to run more than a minute worth of ads.”

He acknowledged that partnered streamers, like himself, get paid well to run them, but claimed that this does not change the reality that the viewing experience is poor. He said; “I don’t think making people watch three minutes of ads makes the experience better. It creates a bad experience for the viewer and ultimately gives YouTube a massive competitive advantage over Twitch. It allows YouTube to say, ‘Hey! Come over here. You don’t have to watch as many ads, and there’s a better video player!’”

Asmongold thinks Twitch’s primary goal should be optimizing the user experience if they want to prevent Ludwig’s forecast of YouTube’s success from coming true. He believes that it is more crucial than keeping streamers on the platform. He cited Microsoft’s failure with Mixer, despite hiring Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek.

He said; “There can be a bunch of big streamers on a platform. But if the platform sucks, people aren’t going to use it. You need to have the experience be good. That’s what matters more than anything.”
