Asmongold Thoughts Of Gabe Newell

Asmongold, a popular Twitch streamer, complimented Valve president Gabe Newell for removing NFTs from Steam.

The veteran MMO streamer first learned about Newell’s decision to restrict all NFTs from the video game distribution platform, Steam, on a February 26th stream. Newell mentioned the often shady behavior of sellers and the widespread fraud in NFT forums in his first comments. 

Asmongold is overjoyed with Newell’s choice. He said; “Thank you, Gabe. This is exactly what we needed to fucking happen.” 

The 30-year-old livestream then praised the video gaming behemoth’s logic. Asmongold explained; “He’s not banning them because he hates crypto entirely. It’s just that whenever 99-percent of NFT promotions are fucking scams, then maybe we shouldn’t do them!”

The streamer went on to say that the presence of NFTs could be bad for the platform in the long run. He added; “If somebody is on Steam and they play a game or get involved with something through NFTs and they lose money, then that person now had a bad experience on Steam.”

Asmongold continued his tirade, slamming anyone who purports to buy NFTs or crypto because of “their faith in the underlying product,” claiming that most people acquire these digital assets as a way to make quick money if their value rises significantly. Asmongold has long been a critic of NFTs and crypto, frequently expressing his displeasure with both the goods and their communities. On Twitch, NFTs have seen a lot of backlash, with some of the most well-known personalities, such as Pokimane, Hasan, and others, coming out against many of the industry’s tactics.
