Asmongold Says He Will Not Do Sponsored Gambling Streams

Asmongold has been vocal about his opposition to sponsored gambling streams on Twitch, and he has pledged to never “sell out” and be paid to do so.

Twitch’s decision to allow streamers to host sponsored gambling streams on its platform has been the talk of the town for quite some time. It was brought back into the spotlight after xQc held one for the first event in almost a year. Not everyone is against them, especially those who get paid a lot of money to do them, like Adin Ross. Pokimane, Sykkuno, and Asmongold are among the streamers who have spoken out against it.

Asmon has been especially vocal about it. Rather than condemning individual streamers like xQc, he feels the solution is to address the underlying issue by making sponsored gambling streams illegal. He also promised to never “sell out” by presenting a sponsored gambling stream himself on a stream on May 18th, noting that he has enough of money and that doing so would destroy his reputation.

Here’s what he stated; “The reason why I’m not going to take a gambling sponsorship, or I really wouldn’t want to, is that I have no plans on doing that. If [a gambling sponsor] offered me $20 million a month, I wouldn’t do it.”

Asmon explained that he has “no reason” to do it as he added; “I already have a lot of money, and the real reason why, here’s the truth, and it’s kind of an ego reason, is because I plan to make content for the rest of my life. I’m not planning on retiring next year. I’m planning on continuing with my company (OTK) and being successful with this for the rest of my life, so why would I sell out [to gambling sponsors] and damage my reputation?”

Asmon disagrees with the notion that gambling streams are lousy entertainment because they are monotonous. He said; “Gambling is not bad content. If it were bad content, it wouldn’t be some people’s most popular streams.”

He does feel, though, that allowing them to run amok on Twitch will inevitably “hurt” the website and have a negative impact on revenue, support, funding, and, as a result, popularity.
