Adin Ross Unbanned

Adin Ross, a Twitch streamer, has been banned from the platform for more than five weeks. Ross was banned in late April for using “Hateful Slurs or Symbols” on a stream or VOD that was shared without context or in a harmful way.

The ban was verified to be indefinite, although as Twitch viewers are well aware, “indefinite” rarely means “long” when it comes to prominent streamers. It should come as no surprise that Adin Ross has been formally unbanned from Twitch. The indefinite ban on Adin Ross’ account has officially been restored as of Friday, June 3rd, according to automated Twitter accounts that track the status of Twitch streamers. For about 1 month, 1 week, and 6 days, the account was reported as banned. Shortly after hearing that his ban had been lifted, Ross posted a message on Twitter that stated, “It’s time.” He then teased a move to another platform before confirming his return to Twitch in a video posted on Twitter on Saturday.

Adin Ross’s return to Twitch was questioned, not only because of the ban, but also because he could potentially switch platforms. Indefinite bans usually indicate that Twitch is fine with a streamer never coming back. Indefinite bans are commonly restored, either as a result of Twitch admitting a mistake about the severity of the infringement or as a result of a concerted effort between the streamer and their community.

The reason for Twitch’s reversal of the ban is unknown, but Ross’ fandom was clearly behind him.

It’s also unclear why he decided to come back to Twitch. Ross’ friends all agreed that Twitch was the obvious choice, as seen by the video he shared. In a now-deleted tweet from his alternative Twitter account, he also hinted that he was legally connected to Twitch in some way. Regardless, Ross appears to be looking forward to returning to Twitch, with his debut stream scheduled for Monday. Because of the nature of Adin Ross’ ban, there was a lot of speculation about whether he’d return. Adin Ross’ ban is thought to be the result of him allegedly using a homophobic slur on a friend’s livestream, though Twitch did not provide specifics. Ross has never publicly addressed the recording, and the friend said it wasn’t Ross who yelled the slur, further complicating the situation.

There will undoubtedly be some debate about Adin Ross’ return to Twitch. Ross never responded to the alleged homophobic insult that led to his suspension. He’s also been banned before. Ross, on the other hand, has a sizable fan base that will be thrilled to see him return, regardless of his previous suspensions.
